Appmania

January 19, 2011

I promised an update on the iPhone App project. Things have gone pretty well since my small bit of trouble getting my first app approved last month. The app was approved shortly after I wrote my last post.

My first app, Ohio Sports Report, was initially released for free with built-in ads from AdMob. I saw mild download numbers for the first two weeks or so but the fill rate on the ads was abysmal. I made the decision to switch from free to paid ($0.99) and while my download stats dropped off a cliff at least now the app actually makes money every day.

So, aside from regular client work, I’ve gone iPhone App crazy in January. I have updated the Ohio Sports Report app once (with a second update sitting here waiting for some more testing), two more apps are waiting to be reviewed and another two are in the beginning stages of development. My goal is to have five apps live and for sale by February 10th. That’s not so coincidentally the same day the iPhone goes on sale to Verizon customers.
